LBRCA is involved in advancing lake residents’ interest in lake levels, shoreline cleanups, environmental leadership, floating houseboat policies, lake access, and local/social activities.
Scholarship Fund:
The Lake Blue Ridge Civic Association Scholarship Fund was established by the Association in January, 2017 and is administered by the Community Foundation of North Georgia. The purpose of the scholarship fund is to provide financial assistance to a Fannin County High School student to further their education at an accredited university.
Little Pink Houses of Hope:
This organization was started BY a breast cancer survivor FOR breast cancer patients, survivors and their families. Little Pink Houses organizes retreats for families to offer a much-needed respite from busy medical schedules and health worries and provides a supportive and hopeful environment with time for families to spend together. The Lake Blue Ridge Civic Association is partners with Little Pink for their family retreat here in Blue Ridge by hosting an afternoon on the lake with boating, tubing, lunch, and general fun and relaxation.
Lake Level:
The LBRCA has requested that the TVA extend the summer full lake season to October 1, and raise the winter drawdown level to 1674 feet above sea level. Our efforts are continuing.
Shoreline Cleanup:
The LBRCA participates annually in the Rivers Alive campaign in September to support the removal of trash and discards around the shoreline.
Environmental Leadership:
The Science Committee has studied our lake extensively to understand health areas such water quality, oxygen content, clarity, and a variety of fish health and other measures. We’ve established good relationships with the University of Georgia and Georgia Department of Natural Resources experts, among others.
Floating Houses:
The LBRCA has petitioned the TVA and the Forest Service to implement their existing policies and cause the removal of all tethered floating houseboats in the various coves around the lake. We anticipate that the TVA will publish a revised policy statement in the coming spring to this effect.
Lake Access:
The LBRCA is committed to making Lake Blue Ridge more accessible to visitors and the local population. Currently we are working toward the repurposing of a couple of properties so that more people can enjoy a view of the lake and other uses.
Involvement with Local Activities:
We are planning to participate in several town and county events such as the upcoming Blue Ridge Trout Festival, Humane Society of Blue Ridge Taste of Blue Ridge, and Blue Ridge BBQ & Blues Festival. We are also planning to conduct at least one fundraiser and are hopeful that we can begin more organized summer activities.
